LIVING ART ON THE EDGE NOVEMBER POST

Welcome to November and Daylight Savings Time Everyone!

Some months are more prolific than others and this past month was not my best but I certainly had a fabulous time just the same.

This month I will share the pieces I completed for my website, a sample piece from the Jonathan Talbot workshop in order to explain the process and 4 donated pieces I did for the Taos Feral Feline Friends Annual Fundraiser.

The next piece has no name as it was my sample piece at the workshop to try various techniques.

Jonathan Talbot's method of collage assures that you will have a flat surface when finished without air bubbles.

The Technique:

- Gloss medium your substrate

- Gloss medium both sides of papers, cloths, etc. that you will use in the collage and let substrate and papers dry completely before adhering.

- When dry, using the Release Paper and Tacking Iron, adhere papers to substrate.

This is a very quick review of his method, but if you are interested in pursuing this method please go to his website at:  www.talbot1.com where you can order the release paper, tacking iron and the book that explains the process in much more detail.  All items are reasonably priced.

Sample piece from Talbot workshop                                                                             ***** Now for a funny story I heard on NPR this week. Evidently a European museum was showing an installation piece called "After the Party".  The room of the installation was strewn with empty champagne bottles, cigarette butts, etc.  When the museum clean up crew came that evening they thought there had been a party and cleaned the room so it shone like a jewel.  Fortunately, museum staff was able to 'rescue' the installation from the garbage and the artist re-installed it. The following pieces I did for the feline fundraiser.  The first was an 11 x 14 collage titled "Cat's Sleep Anywhere".  To create this piece,  I applied a foreign newspaper for the background.  Over this I applied teabags followed by transferring images of cats and a poem about cats.
