JUNE LIVING ART ON THE EDGE

First and foremost, there will not be a July blog due to an extremely full schedule.

This month's topic is VALIDATION.  All of us want our work validated by others whether it is by seeing our work in a gallery or someone purchasing a piece or a compliment of our work.  Before I moved to New Mexico I had a following in the city I lived.  I could scarcely show a piece before someone purchased it.  I was in 3 different galleries there and I have been in 3 galleries here but I have lost my following.

At first I was very discouraged then I did a series "The Safari Series" which gave me my 15 minutes of fame by being a part of National Geographic on Assignment's piece on Dan Eldon, Reuter's youngest photographer that was stoned to death in Somalia.  It was one of the most exciting times of my life and many of my 22 pieces sold then NOTHING.

The NOTHING  made me feel less of an artist.

I began to think about why I did my art and determined it was the fact that it gave me great joy.  Joy became my validation.  It has long been my opinion that all of us have a desire and an actual need to create.  It does not have to be a painting or a piece of sculpture.  Some are creative in their gardening; others in the culinary skills....I could go on and on.

Allow your joy to be your VALIDATION.

If you need the validation of others, Facebook has many art groups one can participate in and the members are wonderful with their "Likes" and their "Loves" and many times a compliment.
